• A free concert featuring the Ugandan Orphan’s Choir will be at the Camano Lutheran Church 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. The Ugandan Orphans Choir brings a message of hope to American audiences through the traditional rhythmic dances and songs of Africa. Performances include colorful African costumes and traditional instruments such as drums and pan pipes as the children sing and dance tribal songs from all over Africa. The concerts are free, but the purpose of the tour is to gather sponsors. Sponsorship information is available at the concert, or online at childcareworldwide.org.

Barry Manilow donates violins to Snohomish County

Forty-five students at two Snohomish County elementary schools will learn to play the violin thanks to Barry Manilow.

He donated the violins through his Manilow Music Project to students at Hawthorne Elementary in Everett and Tulalip Elementary on the Tulalip Reservation.

Cookie Spirk – CD Release Party

Former Blazing Saddles Owner – Cookie Spirk of Camano Island will be appearing with her band – Cookie & The Cutters for a special performance celebrating their new CD at Gerry Andal’s Restaurant in Stanwood on Saturday September 26.

The Party begins at 9pm and will include a performance by Electric Barnyard. Cookie’s band members include Lloyd Crafton from Stanwood, Kinny Alvers from Marysville and Shavi Fireheart from Everett. The band will play cuts from their new CD which includes Original and Cover Country dance music.

There is no cover charge and it is suggested to arrive early for dinner, drinks or appetizers to secure a good seat for the show.

Count Basie.  From Wikipedia:

William "Count" Basie (August 21, 1904 – April 26, 1984) was an American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader, and composer. Widely regarded as one of the most important jazz bandleaders of his time, Basie led his popular Count Basie Orchestra for almost 50 years.
