Art's Alive!
celebrates 25 years in La Conner, November 6 - 8, 2009. This town-wide
weekend festival features art, music, poetry and food at over 50
galleries, shops, museums and restaurants.
The anchor events are two annual art exhibitions – the Invitational Exhibit, showcasing over 20 of the Northwest’s finest visual artists working in media, including bronze sculpture, painting, glass, fiber, and jewelry; and the Open Show, presenting 75 local artists. Both exhibits are located at Maple Hall, 104 Commercial.
New this year is the Emerging Exhibit, spotlighting 10 compelling artists working in wood and metal sculpture, painting, photography, glass, fiber, and jewelry. The Emerging Exhibit is located at Maple Hall, 104 Commercial, and Gallery Cygnus, across the street at 109 Commercial.
The Friday Night Opening Celebration is November 6th, 5 - 8 PM at Maple Hall, 104 Commercial. Tickets $5 at the door. All artwork is for sale.
Art's Alive! features numerous free exhibits and performances throughout the weekend, and wonderful fare at local restaurants. This annual festival is a great opportunity to begin your holiday shopping and/or enhance your collection! A complete program will be published in September.

Jack Gunter's flying pig is airborne again.
Gunter, a well-known Camano Island artist and author, first created the simple black-and-white flying pig back in the 1980s to make his dying brother smile.
Now 25 years later, the pig is flying through history in a book Gunter has created that takes us from God's first thought, to the present and into the future.
But don't get the wrong idea. This history book is far from a boring tome. The 148-page coffee table book contains brilliantly colored, jump-off-the-page Gunter paintings and tongue-in-cheek prose that's a quick read enveloped in a quick wit.

This month at the gallery, you'll be introduced to Marie-Claire's new series of pastel paintings and observe how her passion for painting has influenced her jewelry design. I asked Marie-Claire a few questions about her paintings and here's what she had to say:
Tell us about your pastel paintings...
They are all I think about. I am fascinated by clouds. As I am driving, I study the sky and the colors and the light in the trees deciding in my head what pastel color would match what I see. Painting is really seeing and noticing.

The Stanwood Camano Arts Guild is proud to present this year's featured
artist and winner of the 2009 Art by the Bay poster contest, Molly
LeMaster.
Molly
is primarily a watercolor artist who lives on Camano Island with her
husband and three parrots. In addition to watercolor, she also paints
with acrylic inks & works in mixed media. Upon retiring several
years ago, she returned to her love of painting, which had been put on
hold to raise a family.
"Living on the Island, nature is a constant source of pleasure &
inspiration for my work."

She
and her husband have traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and Mexico
& these travels have also greatly influenced the subject matter of
many of her paintings. Her work hangs in private collections in the
United States, Egypt, England, Thailand, Canada, and Germany, as well
as in corporate art
collections in Seattle. Molly is a signature
member of the Northwest Watercolor Society, has won numerous awards and
is teaching and hosting workshops locally.
Molly's delightful
watercolor entitled "Dungeness Crab" was chosen by her peers - the
membership of the Stanwood-Camano Arts Guild - as the winner of the
2009 Art by the Bay poster contest.
