The Mabana Flames meeting is Thursday, September 2nd at the now normal time
of 10:00 AM. Our speaker will be, Jack Archibald, who is always entertaining!
The Mabana Flames is an organization that aids the work of our volunteer
firefighters of the Mabana Fire Station on the south end of the island. If you
are new to the area and would like to join us, please come to the meeting. Lunch
will be served after our meeting and the wonderful hostesses are Kathy DuBois,
Celia Hartley, Vivian Meyers and Cindy Smith.
Just a reminder for members not able to attend the meeting: Dues for members
are now payable. Dues for the year are $5.00. If you will not be able to be at

Car wash benefits heart association. Union Bank (formerly Frontier Bank), at 8870 271st St. NW, in Stanwood,
will be hosting a car wash 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thurs, Aug. 26, and Thurs,
Sept. 2, as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. They hope
to raise $1,000 by charging $5 per wash.
Auditions open for September workshop. META Performing Arts has announced an audition workshop Sept. 2, 6-8:30
p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 15th and Broadway, Mount Vernon. To
register, call 877-490-6382. The workshop is timed to be especially
helpful to 7- to 13-year-olds who will be auditioning Sept. 8 and 9 for
META’s upcoming production of the musical, “How to Eat Like a Child,”
but the workshop is open to all youth, regardless of their interest in
the upcoming show. The workshop is not a pre-requisite for auditioning
nor does it guarantee casting in the show, which runs Dec. 3-12 at the
historic downtown Lincoln Theatre, in Mount Vernon.
Quilters to resume monthly meetings. The p.m.
group will meet Thurs, Sept. 2, 6:30 p.m. at Stanwood United Methodist
Church, corner of 102nd Drive and 271st St. NW in Stanwood. New members
are welcomed.
